Acorn Fits Out New Central Books Warehouse

New Warehouse Racking

Established in 1939, Central Books Ltd specialise in the distribution of books and magazines on behalf of publishers to bookshops, specialist outlets, individuals and institutions from their warehouse based in Chadwell Heath. Due to the future expansion plans for the business, it was the right time for Central Books to leave their home for the past 26 years in Hackney Wick and move their distribution operation into a new warehouse.

Having dealt with Acorn Storage Equipment Ltd for many years for all their racking and shelving requirements for the Hackney Wick location, Central Books, Managing Director, Bill Norris comments “One of the easiest decisions I made after buying a new warehouse for Central Books was to ask Acorn to come on board and help us plan, supply and then erect all our racking and shelving. We warehouse about 4 million books and to date Acorn have always come up with professional advice and service for what I believe is a good price”. The new space was a blank canvass and radically different from their former building so it was imperative that all the space within the new warehouse was used effectively.  Bill Norris says “My confidence that we are using the new building to good effect is in no small part down to the expertise of Acorn”. He continues “Neil and his colleagues have a huge knowledge of racking systems and I have confidence in them to make good and effective recommendations. Their space planning is matched by years of hands on experience”.

Acorn were delighted to be asked to be involved in the project and Acorn’s Sales Director, Neil Wood comments, “It was important to provide racking that suited Central Books purpose perfectly in terms of functionality and to their budget.  On this occasion we supplied and installed quality assured second hand Link51 pallet racking in their new 2000 sq.m. building, making best use of the available height which ranges from 6m eaves up to 10m.  We worked closely with their forklift truck provider, AM Forklifts of Barking, to ensure the layout worked effectively with the new reach trucks and picking operation.  The new building is a significant investment for Central Books and we like to think we have played a small part in their future success.”
