Nationwide document storage company Restore Ltd have more than 2 million ft² of secure, flood-proof storage space at key sites throughout the UK.
Each year they manage millions of archive boxes of document files, film and computer tapes for blue-chip organisations, including leading accountancy, corporate, financial, insurance, law and media firms, as well as local authorities and hospital trusts.
To meet compliance regulations companies use Restore’s deep storage service to archive documents such as deeds, wills and financial or medical records. These specialist storage facilities contain state-of-the-art technology to electronically track stored documents which can then be retrieved or flagged up for destruction/recycling at the appropriate time.
When Restore were looking to centralise some of their deep storage to their Paddock Wood facility they commissioned Acorn Storage Equipment to design, supply and install a pallet racking system capable of storing some 250,000 document archive boxes.
Our expertise enabled us to incorporate Restore’s existing racking from the storage facilities being amalgamated, and when combined with our own large stocks of refurbished used racking, resulted in all four warehouses at Paddock Wood being supplied in used racking. As well as being a more environmentally friendly option, this led to significant cost savings for the client.
To minimise disruption to Restore’s operations, Acorn initially installed the first phase of racking from our stocks - enabling the transfer of documents and racking from satellite sites to take place in stages. Once our installation team had dismantled and transported the existing racking, our design team were able to incorporate this into the end design with minimal modification needed.
Says Acorn Storage Director Neil Wood: “The job has really played to our strength as a team. There were a lot of variables when reusing racking from several sites; our installation team and design team were able to adapt the design throughout to create a layout that maximised storage and fully utilised Restore’s existing materials.”
