Va-Q-tec, a leading supplier in thermal packaging, required extra storage space after 2 freezer chambers were installed at their premises in Rochester. Va-Q-tec specialises in thermal packaging for the medical sector. One of Va-Q-Tec’s main products the Vaq-Q-tainer can store a pallet with a 550kg payload – suffice to say there needs to be a sufficient storage area for these products.
Dominic Hyde, Managing Director at Va-Q-Tec contacted Acorn Storage Equipment and was looking to build a mezzanine floor to make more of the space they had available.
Initially, Neil Wood from Acorn Storage Equipment undertook a site visit, to discuss with Dominic his requirements and to look at the current setup. The next step would be to decide where to put the mezzanine floor. The team at Acorn Storage Equipment are specialists in warehouse reconfigurations and Neil is well versed when it comes to assessing storage space.
Once Neil had measured up and taken some other key details, it was time to sketch some ideas and work out costs. The challenge Neil had was that one wall was already being utilised with existing pallet racking and the two freezers were already in situ.
Neil agreed that Va-Q-tec will benefit from mezzanine flooring over the freezer chambers. The mezzanine floor would be 12 x 12.145 x 7.65 x 3.22m. The floor would be built with a fire proof suspended ceiling & a pallet gate for safety. This would enable Va-Q-tec to utilise their existing racking for pallets, but create an entire multipurpose platform.
Dominic Hyde said of the mezzanine floor, “We are delighted with the extra space this has provided. Before this installation nearly all of our space was accounted for and we can now use the extra space for storage and develop a staff area.”
