As market leaders in sports nutrition, Reflex Nutrition recently invested in the UK’s most advanced sports supplement manufacturing facility.
Having worked with Reflex Nutrition at their original manufacturing plant, the team at Acorn Storage Equipment were well placed to provide a turnkey solution to their storage needs in their new purpose-built 37,500 sq ft production, office and storage facility.
Reflex Nutrition manufactures, sells and distributes a range of sports and health supplements in the UK and abroad. Established in Brighton and Hove in 1996, the company now has a turnover of £7 million and the new premises will allow for its further expansion.
Their state-of-the-art facility, incorporating manufacturing and offices, has been built to the highest environmental standards.
The building design incorporates sun-pipes and roof-lights to provide natural light, thereby reducing the need for electric lighting. It also included a 10 kW wind turbine which provides the site with electricity, sending any excess power generated back to the national grid.
In keeping with their environmental objectives, Acorn Storage Equipment was able to reuse much of their existing storage equipment including dismantling and relocating their mezzanine floor and pallet racking. Within the project we extended their reused mezzanine flooring and created an additional new raised floor for the compressors and dust extraction equipment. By creating an upper layer to house the machinery, space below was freed-up for additional storage, which maximised Reflex Nutrition's productive space.
Their drive-in racking layout was reconfigured to incorporate new ‘flexi’ trucks. These three-wheel articulated forktrucks are capable of exceptional manoeuvrability and can operate within significantly reduced aisle widths.
Dismantling, relocation and installation of racking, storage and mezzanine flooring took place over a six week period. Acorn worked closely with the other teams involved in the project to ensure a smooth transition to the new location.
Says Neil Wood from Acorn Storage Equipment:
“This was an extremely interesting project to work on. The new build was created to optimise efficiency and maximise productive space. We were delighted to put our design expertise to use to create a warehouse layout that achieved those goals. And by reusing Reflex Nutrition’s existing racking and mezzanine flooring we played a part in minimising the environmental impact of the relocation – and achieved significant cost savings for the client”
